Why Screenshot Your Apple Watch?
If you use your watch for tracking workouts, closing rings, or watching your weight loss progress, there are plenty of times you’ll want to save what’s on the screen. Maybe you hit a personal best, maybe you want to share a ring-closing streak, or maybe you just need to show someone a setting. A screenshot beats trying to describe it.
The catch is that the Apple Watch doesn’t let you do it out of the box. You have to flip one switch first.
Turning On the Screenshot Setting
The setting lives in the Watch app on your iPhone. Open the Watch app, head into the General settings, and look for the option to enable screenshots. Switch it on and you’re ready to go. It takes about ten seconds once you know where to look, and I show the exact screens in the video below.
If you can’t find it, make sure your watch and phone are paired and up to date. Everything about this runs through that connection.
Taking the Screenshot
With the setting on, bring up whatever screen you want to capture on the watch face. Then press the Digital Crown and the side button at the same time, quickly, and let go. You’ll see the screen flash, and that’s your screenshot.
The first couple of times it’s easy to hold the buttons too long, which can open something else instead. Think quick tap, not hold.
Where to Find Your Screenshot
Here’s the part that trips people up: the screenshot doesn’t stay on the watch. It gets saved to the Photos app on your paired iPhone, so open Photos and it’ll be sitting in your recent images, ready to share or save.
My Take
It’s a small trick, but it’s one of those things I wish I’d known earlier. If you track your fitness with an Apple Watch like I do, being able to save a screen in seconds is handy. Turn the setting on once and you’re set.
