Outdoor Running in the Country: A HIIT Run Away From the Gym
Today I decided to skip the gym and get my running in outdoors. Once again my knees had something to say about it, but I still got in an excellent HIIT run and saw some country while I was at it.

Why I Skipped the Gym
Sometimes the best thing for a workout is a change of scenery. The gym is great, but running outside gives you fresh air, real terrain, and a lot more to look at than a wall of mirrors.
Knees Again
As in my previous video, I ran into some knee issues, which meant changing my plans for what I thought I’d be working on. Instead of forcing it, I adapted the session. If you’re dealing with something similar, I also covered it in my video about running with sore knees.
Fitting HIIT Into an Outdoor Run
High intensity interval training works anywhere you can run. You alternate harder efforts with easier recovery, and the road or trail replaces the treadmill. It keeps a run from getting boring and it’s an efficient way to work your cardio.
My Takeaway
Changing the plan didn’t ruin the workout. I still got in a solid HIIT session, and I got to enjoy the country. Watch the video to see the route and how it went.
